Style Inspiration: Natalie Wood

Since I saw her in the "Splendor in the Grass", when I was a kid, I loved her instantly. Her classic look and timeless beauty are truly my inspiration. This actress embodied that cool, easy chic that depicts the early 60's, all style and glamour and ease. Bombshell hair, played up those eyes, and dressed to flatter. Make a note or two from the starlet's effortless look, all the while wishing I was part of the early 1960's yet again.
Aside from being gorgeous, Natalie Wood was an incredible actress. You may have seen her in West Side Story, Rebel Without A Cause (damn straight she’s in that!) Gypsy, Splendor in the Grass, From Here to Eternity (the remake) and more.
She had a passion for clothes, fur coats and men.  I think she was married 4 times, twice to the same guy!  I'll never understand why Natalie Wood is not mentioned more frequently as the style icon she truly was.
Her death is a tragedy,  too young in any matter.  But during her life she was a star, with amazing style and grace especially during the early 70′s.  From cat eye makeup, to simple glam.  I absolutely love her style!

There has suddenly been new interest in the details around the death of actress Natalie Wood. It has been thirty years since she drowned off her and husband Robert Wagner's private yacht near Catalina Island. And while there is no doubt that the tabloids will once again spin many stories around various theories, I thought it was important to recognize once again the beauty and talent of Natalie Wood.
Natalie appeared in 56 films and for the big screen and television; she was nominated for three Oscar's before she turned 25. Her acting career began when she was just 4 years old, but it was when she was 8 that she appeared in Miracle on 34th Street. It was this epic holiday film that first gained Natalie notoriety.
Natalie was only 16 years old when she played along side of James Dean in Rebel Without A Cause, a film that earned her a an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Natalie had a fear of drowning after falling into a river and almost drowning at the age of nine while she was filming a movie. As a result of the accident Natalie's left wrist was left weakened with a slight bone protrusion, she wore oversized bracelets on her left wrist ever since that time to help distract away from it.
The invisible scar from the accident was much deeper; Natalie developed a fear of drowning and on several occasions adjustments were made while filming due to her concerns.
Natalie's beauty earned her many titles that noted her glamourous style including "The Most Beautiful Teenager in The World" by Life Magazine (1956).
The petite beauty who was only 5 feet tall wore heels most of the time, and it was generally noted that her height was 5' 3" {her height in heels}. Natalie had a soft sexy style, vivid brown eyes and a generous smile.
Warren Beatty and Natalie Wood met and began their relationship on the promotional tour for the movie 'Splendour in the Grass' in 1961.
The yacht that Natalie and Wagner owned, and subsequently she drowned off of was named 'Splendour' - as a nod to the 1961 film.
She was a Mother to two daughters - one with husband Richard Gregson and one with husband Robert Wagner.
"You know what I want? I want yesterday"

  1. Natalie and Warren Beatty did meet on the set of Splendor in the Grass, but did not start their affair until long after the movie was finished, on a promotional tour for it. During filming of Splendor, they were not on friendly terms at all. Natalie was annoyed by Beatty's Method acting style, nicknaming Warren "Mental Anguish". Beatty was engaged to Joan Collins and very much into her. Because the chemistry between him and Natalie was almost non-existent, director Elia Kazan would try to inspire Beatty by telling him "Imagine it's Joanie", whenever he had to do an intimate scene with Natalie. After filming was over, Beatty and Joan Collins moved to Europe, where they both had to shoot movies; Warren filmed "The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone" there with Vivien Leigh. After that movie was shot, he and Joan Collins split and Beatty returned to the US alone, where the promotional tour for Splendor in the Grass began, during which he and Natalie Wood became a real life couple. Also, Natalie did NOT try and commit suicide over the break-up with Beatty. In fact, she referred to him as her "life saver".
